6 Songs | MR061 | Release Date 2011
There’s an air of mystery surrounding this EP from Arkansas’ own Grand Serenade, as if the Lake Country of the title were a dark and foreboding place. This, of course, is a very good thing. At just six songs, a lot of ground is covered on this follow-up to the band’s 2007 release Lean Times. There’s the thudding title cut, with its quiet/loud/quiet dynamic and soaring vocals; “Broke Rules” has an epic sweep and features a chilling, David Gilmour-type guitar solo; “Just Like I Did” is a pleasing alt-rock workout; “Water’s Edge” encapsulates the intricate, atmospheric, fever-dream vibe of the album.
Yeah, we’d follow Grand Serenade to the water’s edge anytime.
